The Samantha Elizabeth Pesaresi Chair of Research
Samantha Elizabeth Pesaresi was a beautiful young lady whose life was cut short at the tender age of 23 by a fatal brain aneurysm. In 2013 “Sam’s Spirit” was organized as a non-profit entity. Its mission is to advance the legacy of Samantha through promoting the benefits of organ donations and working with the Gift of Life Family House in Philadelphia, PA. The Gift of Life Family House provides services to organ donors, organ recipients, and their families. Sam’s organs were donated when she passed away. Three lives were immediately saved by the donation of her lungs, heart and liver. Sam’s family has been in contact with the recipients. They have met the lung recipient and his family, and have developed a strong relationship. Sam’s Spirit has also established a memorial scholarship at her high school alma mater, Phillipsburg High School in Phillipsburg NJ. There is an annual “Sprint for Sam”, a 5k run and 3k walk which Sam’s school friends initiated. There is also an annual “Sam Pes” golf outing which adds to the funding. Sam’s cousin, Tyler Vail, who is a professional baseball pitcher, currently with the Evansville Otters, has organized “Strikeouts for Sam” which allows sponsors to donate to Sam’s Spirit on a per strikeout basis. The board of trustees of Sam’s Spirit, having fulfilled a major obligation to The Gift of Life Family House, decided to increase the reach of the foundations benefits by funding a Chair of Research in Sam’s name with the BAF.
